Xfinity Internet is a home broadband service from Comcast, a major media and technology company. At the end of 2022, the company announced thatXfinity immediately introduced multi-gigabit tiersto about three dozen cities and many more by 2025.Earlier this year, Comcast began rolling out DOCSIS 4.0 technologyacross its network, allowing you to experience more than 40 markets faster, options for multi-gigabit internet speed.

What does it mean to you? Xfinity is the largest in the countrycable internet providerbut does that automatically make it the best? It's easy to be impressed by the variety of internet speed plans, but when I delved into the details, my eyes were dazzled. Is there such a thing as too many options?

With Xfinity, some plans require you to sign a one-year contract, others require a two-year commitment, and some require no contract at all. Additionally, you'll face a data cap each month (again, not with all plans, but with some), and you can expect the price of your plan to increase over time, sometimes by more than 50% of the original charge.

These types of headaches are normal with ISPs and make it hard to tell if this is the caseget a good dealon your home internet connection. Still, Xfinity is available in more than a third of the country, and it's the fastest option available to many people in that area. It's worth understanding what you'll gain, especially if you think speed is necessary and fiber isn't an option for your area or address.

Xfinity Internet: Plans and Prices

Depending on where you live, Xfinity offers up to seven different internet plans, and if you want the best price, you'll probably need to be bound by a contract. Additionally, all prices in the charts reflect the automatic payment option. Otherwise, you must add $10 per month if you choose to opt out of the electronic payment discount. Here are the details.

Xfinity Internet plans and prices vary by region

Yes, Comcast offers slightly different rates depending on your area. Some of the differences are minor, but there are some distinct differences to be found in the cheapest plans. In the West and Central regions, it's the Connect (75 Mbps) plan for $20-$30 per month, but in the Northeast, it's the Connect More (200 Mbps) plan for $25 per month. Why so confusing? What does it give?

"We are a regional provider that sells and prices our products based on the dynamics of each local market," an Xfinity spokesperson told CNET. "Therefore, our costs may vary from market to market."

These price differences will not have much meaning or consequence for the average consumer. But since Xfinity is available in 39 states, it could prove useful for people who move from one part of the country to another and experience significant sticker shock.

A breakdown of Xfinity prices and values per Mbps

One of the key issues with Xfinity plans is the sometimes stark contrast between the enticing promotional price and the more expensive standard price. Most ISPs try to lure customers with competitive starting prices that eventually turn into a hefty monthly fee. This isn't unique to Comcast Xfinity, but you might be surprised at how steep these price increases can get at times.

For example, if your household wanted a higher tier choice, such as a gigabit plan, you would initially pay $67 per month (average across the three regions). It is a competitive price. However, after the promotional period ends, your monthly bill will increase from $90 to $99. Even more dramatic is the jump felt by customers trying to cut costs with the Connect More plan. Across the three regions, it ranges from a promotional rate of an average of $32 per month to an average of $71 per month. It's more than just a small boost: it's a strong jump of more than 120%!

Price aside, Xfinity's regular rates — the amount you pay each month after costs add up — aren't that unreasonable. For example, the price per Mbps at regular rate for all plans 39 cents, which is roughly in the middle of what customers can expect to pay for cable Internet service. That's not as low as Spectrum's standard rate of 25 cents per second. Mbps, but much cheaper than the average Cox speed of 80 cents per Mbps at normal rates.

Which Xfinity Home Internet Plan is Right for You?

Xfinity Home Internet review: Plans, prices, coverage and more (2)

Many ISPs offer three or four plan options, so you may feel overwhelmed looking at the seven on the Xfinity network. But there is no need to panic. We have a helpful primerwhat speed do you really need. Read this, choose a plan that fits your average usage and don't be afraid to be conservative. If your plan isn't sufficient for your needs, Xfinity is always happy to upgrade you to a faster (and more expensive) plan.

Xfinity Internet: What Kind of Internet Connection Is It?

One detail you may have noticed in the plant charts is the discrepancy betweendownload and uploadspeed. This is because Xfinity Internet relies almost exclusively on hybrid fiber-coaxial connections to serve subscribers' homes. HFC offers speeds much faster than those typically offered byDSL,satelliteIpermanent wireless networknetwork. However, due to the asymmetric nature of your connection, your download speed will always be significantly higher than your upload speed. This is the main reason why cable does not deliver the performance of fiber optic networks.

Most of us pay more attention to download speed because it affects our ability to watch movies, listen to new music or stream our favorite shows without annoying buffering. That said, as more and more of us work from home, the ability to transfer files becomes more and more important. E.g,Zoom recommends at least 2 Mbpsto use the platform on one screen. If two people are on separate Zoom calls at the same time, or have an important business call while your kids are playing online, you can quickly run into problems with some of these plans.

While most of its space uses HFC, Xfinity offers an FTTH option under its highest speed plan, Gigabit Pro. This plan is only available in select homes that have it, so be sure to ask for a site survey to make sure it can be serviced. Our Comcast sources also tell us that Xfinity is focused on using existing cable connections to achieve the symmetrical speeds we commonly associate with fiber, rather than looking for additional fiber installations.

Do you live in one of these states and trying to determine if you qualify for Xfinity? You can check your address using the online service tool at the bottom or top of this page.

It's always worth taking the time to read the fine print. Planning your budget will ensure that you are allocating the right amount to your web service. After all, it's not just about the monthly fee to start.

Additional monthly fees

As for monthly fees, the promotional price is $10/month off signing up for automatic payments and paperless billing. If you choose not to go this route, you can expect to pay an additional $10 monthly fee. As mentioned above, your monthly rate will also be converted to a much higher normal rate when the promotional price ends.

You'll also pay an additional $15 per month for the xFi Gateway, a sleek modem-router combo exclusive to Xfinity that offers free security, parental controls over your home's Wi-Fi, and full tech support.

Or choose Comcast's xFi Complete solution, which includes unlimited data and free gateway updates after three years. This will cost you $25/month, although Xfinity currently has a deal (on some plans) where you pay $15/month for two years.

Finally, Xfinity allows you to use your own modem and router, but your hardware must be compatible with its services. Even so, you won't get the same tech support or device updates as xFi. On the plus side, if you use a modem and router with a 400 Mbps or higher plan, you'll get a $10 monthly discount off your monthly bill in several Comcast regions. However, you'll be tied to Xfinity's 1.2TB data allowance — unless you pay an extra $30/month for unlimited data.

One-time fee for Xfinity setup

If you want a technician to activate your service and verify all home calls, there will be a $100 fee. Xfinity allows you to bypass this additional cost by choosing the self-install option, which means you receive an introductory kit and can activate the service yourself using the Xfinity app. It will cost $15 in most markets, although there will be no charge in some areas.

Xfinity internet dataforbrugsplan

Unfortunately, Xfinity enforces a monthly data allowance set at 1.2TB (1200GB). That said, data caps do not apply to customers in the Northeast market and some plans in all three regions. It should be noted that several other internet providers - i.aLimit,Verizonand competitor to cable TVspectrum- offer unlimited data for a monthly fee. Thus, Xfinity lags behind some competitors in terms of data limits.

That being said, what constitutes 1.2 TB of data? If you want to eat all four seasonsStrange thingsin fantastic Ultra HD you can expect to use up to 7 GB per hour. Thatseneste OpenVault reportnotes that the average monthly household bandwidth usage is around 585GB, so most customers should be able to fit within Xfinity's monthly data allowance.

Xfinity Home Internet review: Plans, prices, coverage and more (4)

If your household uses more than the specified 1.2TB of data per month, you will be charged an additional $10 for each 50GB overage. The maximum monthly excess fee is $100. Xfinity hasPossibility of unlimited data, which will cost you an extra $30 per month, but will keep you well under the $100 monthly excess limit. Still, it's only profitable on average if you incur three or more monthly excess fees.

Xfinity Internet: Bundles, Freebies and Bonuses

We've already talked about the not-so-hidden extra fees you can expect when you register on the website. When you sign up for broadband with Xfinity, you'll also find freebies and great extras.

First, because Comcast Xfinity offers a lot of services, you can potentially get an additional $10-$30 per month off your internet bill for two years if you have an active, qualifying subscriptionXfinity Mobilethe line.

Since Xfinity also offers TV, home security, voice and cellular services, several package deals can help you cut your regular bill by $10 or more per month. As with the tables above, bundle offers vary from region to region. Still, all customers should be able toalmost 10 types of bundles, ranging from Double Play (internet and other services) to premium packages that include internet, TV and streaming, phone and home security.

Third, you'll have access to over 20 million Xfinity hotspots nationwide. This means you have free Wi-Fi on the go.

Fourth, Xfinity customers who purchase a gigabit plan or higher will also receive a free Peacock Premium plan.

Streaming af Xfinity med Flex

Finally, you can addXfinity Flex 4K Streaming Set Top Box og Voice Remote. This gives you access to popular streaming apps and tons of free content, including a Peacock Premium subscription. While this is free in many Xfinity markets, there is a one-time activation fee of $15.

Xfinity Internet vs. Competition: Decent customer satisfaction scores

Over the past few years, Comcast Xfinity has performed relatively well in customer satisfaction metrics. When you look atthe latest data from the American Customer Satisfaction Index, Xfinity remains above the industry average. His current score is 68 out of a possible 100 points. This puts it above the industry average of 66 for non-fiber ISPs, but not quite as highT-Mobile Home Internet,,Spark lightIKinetic fra Windstream.

Localization of local ISPs

Localization of local ISPs

By jumping toJ. D. US Household ISP Satisfaction Survey Power 2022, Xfinity consistently ranks in the top third for overall customer satisfaction. The survey used a 1,000-point scale and divided the country into four geographical regions: West, South, North Central and East. Xfinity performed well in each region with an average score of 714 points in each region. That was enough to place it second in the East (behind Verizon), fifth in the North Central (behind Verizon).Midco, AT&T,CentennialLinkIWideOpenWest), second in the South (again behind AT&T) and second in the West (behind AT&T, you guessed it).

Xfinity Internet: What's the Bottom Line?

Comcast Xfinity is the largest cable internet provider in the country with a relatively good customer service record and gigabit services available across the coverage map. Fiber-equipped addresses can even offer speeds of 6,000 Mbps, which is one of the faster home internet plans you can find. Unless a dedicated fiber service provider offers service in your area, chances are Xfinity will be your fastest option.

Just watch out for the company's price increases after the promotional period. While most carriers will raise your bill after the first year, Xfinity increases can be particularly large, especially in the Northeast and Central divisions. You'll also be up against the Xfinity data cap, though most households with 1.2TB should be fine without going over. If all that sounds doable, Xfinity is worth considering.
